Delete Your Account
How to delete your NotAlone account and what happens to your information when you do.
Last updated: September 2026Deleting your account yourself
You can delete your NotAlone account at any time, from either the mobile app or the website. You do not need to contact us and you do not need to give a reason.
In the NotAlone app (Android or iOS)
- Open the app and sign in
- Go to Profile, then Settings
- Scroll to the bottom and tap "Delete account"
- Enter your password to confirm
On the website
- Sign in at notalone.in
- Go to Settings from your dashboard
- Choose "Delete account" and enter your password to confirm
Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone. We do not keep a grace period during which the account can be restored.
If you cannot sign in
If you have lost access to your account, email support@notalone.in from the address you registered with, with the subject line "Delete my account".
We will confirm that the request came from the account holder before we act on it — this protects you from somebody else closing your account. Once confirmed, we delete the account within 30 days and email you when it is done.
What is deleted
The following are erased from your account record straight away, not merely hidden:
- Your name and display name
- Your email address (replaced with an unusable placeholder)
- Your password
- Your phone number
- Your profile photo and cover image
- Your bio, location, and date of birth
- Your languages, interests, and preferences
- Every sign-in token, so you are signed out on every device immediately
- Any pending password reset or verification codes
Your conversations
Chat messages are not kept until deletion — they are removed for everyone as soon as a session ends and its conversation closes, whether or not you delete your account. This is how the platform works normally, and it is the promise we make when you start a session. The one exception is described in section 05.
What happens to your bookings and balance
Deleting your account ends everything attached to it. Before you confirm, the app tells you exactly what you are giving up:
- Sessions you have booked but not yet had are cancelled, and the Companion is told so they are not left waiting
- Sessions you have already paid for are cancelled without a refund
- Any balance in your NotAlone wallet is given up — the wallet cannot be withdrawn or transferred
- Seats you hold for upcoming events are released to other members
If you have a wallet balance or paid sessions ahead, close them out before deleting — or write to support first. Once the account is deleted we cannot return either.
What we keep, and for how long
A small amount of information outlives the account. None of it identifies you on the platform, and each item is kept for a specific reason:
- Payment and session records — the fact that a booking and a payment happened, with your personal details removed. Indian tax and company law requires us to keep books of account, and we hold these for the period the law sets (currently eight financial years).
- A one-way fingerprint of your email address — only if you used the free first session. It cannot be read back into your address; it exists so the free session is not claimed again and again by deleting and re-registering.
- A conversation under an open safety report — if somebody reported messages for review, those messages are held until the report is resolved, then deleted. This is what lets us act on harassment and safety complaints.
- Aggregate usage counts — numbers such as how many sessions took place in a month, which carry no personal information.
Companion accounts
If you are a Companion, the same steps apply from the Companion portal, with two additions: any sessions already booked with you are cancelled and those members are told, and earnings you have not yet been paid are settled before the account closes. Write to support@notalone.in if a payout is outstanding, so we can pay it before you go.
